A custom-built vending machine photo booth that transformed a familiar retail object into an interactive brand experience for J.Crew.

We designed and built a custom photo booth for J.Crew that blended branded content capture with a physical prize-dispensing interaction. Guests stepped up to a fully fabricated enclosure, triggered the experience through a physical coin mechanism, and were guided through a photo capture flow designed to feel playful, approachable, and on-brand.

The installation combined custom software, integrated hardware, and a durable physical build, creating a repeatable retail experience that invited participation while reinforcing J.Crew’s brand personality through interaction.

Behind the scenes, the system operated as a fully engineered prize-dispensing platform. A seven-hopper mechanism allowed up to 120 prizes to be preloaded at a time, supported by custom actuators, sensors, and control electronics. Backend software managed inventory and system status, ensuring reliable operation throughout the activation.
