New York Times Two-Player Wordle Experience

A live, two-player adaptation of Wordle that transformed a daily digital game into a shared, in-person experience.

New York Times Two-Player Wordle Experience

We designed and built a live, two-player version of Wordle for The New York Times, reimagining the iconic digital puzzle as a physical, social experience. The installation allowed two participants to compete head to head, taking turns guessing words while the system tracked inputs, validated guesses, and displayed real-time visual feedback on large-format screens.

The system tracked inputs in real time, validated guesses, and delivered immediate visual feedback, culminating in clear win and loss states at the end of each round. Built for live audiences, the experience emphasized clarity, responsiveness, and reliability, preserving the familiar mechanics of Wordle while introducing urgency, competition, and shared energy in a public, event-driven environment.

Top players were highlighted on a live leaderboard that continuously rotated through the top 100 scores, creating momentum and competition throughout the event.
